22 On the contrary, those parts of the body that seem to be weaker are indispensable, 23 and the parts we think are less honourable we treat with special honour… 25 so that there should be no division in the body, but that it’s parts should have equal concern for each other.
We acknowledge that attending church can present barriers for some children and adults with additional needs. Over a number of years we've developed programmes to help families feel welcome and included.
Visual Schedules
and a Social Story
To help parents and carers prepare their children, we've developed a number of visual schedules that shows what will happen and in what order.
- Sunday Service for Kids staying in the main service
- Sunday Service for Kids going into groups
- and, What happens in our Blaze / Illuminate group
As well as a coming to church social story, that explains why something happens and what people can do in a situation, this helps with understanding social situations, expectations, emotions, or new experiences.
When we have an 'All Age service' there will usually be a visual schedule available in the weekly newsletter before the Sunday, and printed copies available on the morning.
Special Provision in Our Children's Ministry
We have a dedicated team to serve those with additional needs, helping them access and feel included.
When Dreams Change Course
A free 4-week Growing Hope course for parents and carers of children with additional needs. It helps process emotional changes, manage grief, and identify support networks – exploring new hopes for their families in a safe space. (Details below)
Additional Needs Support Group
We also run a support group for parents of children with additional needs. It can be a lifeline. (SOFA group details below)
